Aloha Kona! After a day at sea we arrived at the Island of Kona. Kona is famous for its coffee especially to Americans.
Cos got up early to collect tickets for the tender service but was turned away because you only get them when you are ready to leave. Hmm different story told by another of the ship’s officers yesterday, I could of slept more!
Given the ship has over 2000 passengers and with two tenders running 60 passengers every 30 minutes to shore, it is going to take awhile.
Of course, we will want to go ashore mid morning at peak time.
The Maths of tender travel aside, the island looks nice from ship.
At 10:52am local time we boarded a tender for Kona.
They put 97 people aboard packed in tight. In a emergency, they add additional 50 people aboard.
View from the tender heading ashore.
Arriving at Kona
The town is Kailua on the island of Kona.
Our plan is to take “the trolley” to Kakaluu beach park so Jacqueline can snorkel with reef fish.
Our trolley ride took us on1 hour tour of the township. We even saw a Walmart, selling live Christmas trees, lucky us.
The trip took us past the local brewery.
Around 1:15pm we arrived at the Kahaluu Beach Park so Jacqueline could snorkel with fish and turtles.
We took an Uber back to the docks, then found our lunch at Splashes Grill. The burgers were huge and very tasty.
After lunch we went in search of tourist gift shops for keep-sake of Kona.
On returning to the tenders, we passed the oldest church in islands and one of the former monarchy’s homes.
Cos got in the hundreds strong queue while Melissa went with Jacqueline to get last minute gifts from Kona.
Return to ship.
After our return to ship we enjoyed a room delivery of 2 trays of food and drink as part of our tea service. More food.... and watched tenders get recovered and the sunset.
