Hawaii Day 6 - Maui Day 2

Today we are travelling to the small township of Lahaina. It is Harbour based town.

“Lāhainā is the largest census-designated place in West Maui, Maui County, Hawaii, United States, and the gateway to the Ka'anapali and Kapalua beach resorts to its north. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a resident population of 11,704.” Wikipedia.

We passed fourth largest volcano in the world (11000ft)

I wasn’t sure what we would find in Lāhainā as I’m (Cos) not a shopper. I’m pleasantly surprised by the harbour town’s late 19th / early to mid 20th century charm. Yes there are more tourist shops that one can count but there is museums and art galleries mixed in between the tourist shops and tour operators. Today is a glorious sunny day, soft sea breeze and the gentle sound of ocean waves.

The streets are lined with charming old style shop fronts. They have preserved their heritage.

The town is clear and easy to navigate.

We had lunch at “Bubba Gump - Shrimp Co”.

“Bubba Gump - Shrimp Co” is restaurant that specialise in seafood. Apparently, Family-friendly chain for seafood & American fare served in a fishing-boat-themed setting.

Our “Bubba Gump - Shrimp Co” is perched on the sea and has a tree growing through the middle of the restaurant. Obviously the movie Forest Gump is inspiration for the restaurant.

After lunch we moved along Main Street back to the bus. A quick visit to Baldwin House (Museum) which was built in 1834. The look and feel similar to homes we saw in historic savanna in 2008 and Tasmania in 2012.

The home is reported to be haunted by its missionary owners.

We left for the ship 3pm local time (11am Toowoomba).

Almost back to the ship.

At 7pm local time we got underway.

Tonight we dined at Skyline Restaurant. Great service and pleasant food.
