Trip to Venice

Well what a day! We took the train to Vence today. It lasted 9 hours and took us through the Alps.

The Swiss alps are breath taking and amazing. The Europeans have a natural wonder of the world. Best described as Traditional picture postcard of little hamlets nestled in snow covered valleys over looked by tree covered mountains rising into the heavens. The train travels through long tunnels and across flying bridges and moves with some speed. The train is quiet comfortable as it speeds along through a Christmas wonderland. I can almost imagine what sort fairytale land it must be throughout the year. The buildings are very old and could easily see various characters walking the streets of various hamlets.

Near Milan our trip took interesting turn as the train was board by armed soldiers who search the whole train for heaven knows what?? They even searched some passengers lugguage. At Milan we nearly missed our train. Very little official help for passengers, you just need to know here to go. What help we did get was poor and wanted payment. An adventure to be sure.

The locals are friendly and the trip to Venice ended in light rain. We took a water bus over to old Venice then walked 20 minutes through medieval lanes and bridges across canals. Eventually we reached a doorway that hadn't change since the middle ages. Inside the 430 year old 5 story building was 4.5 star luxury. Our 3 story appartment is amazing with all the creature comforts but housed in history. We overlook a canal where across the way (20 m) is a similar medieval appartments. Wow!
