day 3 Basel

Day 3 Basel
Today saw us visit the zoo. That was interesting. Because it was winter (we hope) and quite cold, we were seeing real snow not sleet, the animals were housed indoors. For some animals that was ok others pretty sad. For example seeing giraffes having to duck their head as they walk from one room to the next or n elephant swaying gem side to side was hard. There were even kangaroos in an inside enclosure. It's only when you look at the map that you can hope they spend time outside during better weather as the paths appear to border enclosures. The highlight would have to have been the hippos for two reasons firstly there was a baby only a few months old. Yes baby hippos can be cute, and their father can be show-offs. Father hippo played splash the humans, while Mother hippo taught baby breath holding . Overall the zoo was excellent.

Next we visited Christmas markets, purchased a few gifts and partook of some mulled wine and saugage. Very nice, we see why Germns like their sausges. The girls met Santa, who was the real deal in every way except for language. Children where given apples as gifts which were exceptional nice.

Finally we bought some Swiss watches on the way home.

We are very sad to leave Basel.
