We are safe and sound in Basel. What a place...nothing like it in Australia. Snowing is special. Girls are all well but tired.
The Singapore flight to Frankfurt was terrible. The entertainment suite kept failing, and the staff rarely visited. Very different to the first flight.
Frankfurt was terrible, the Germans we met generally lacked any understanding. I found them at the airport cold and functional. Security checkpoints every-where, the airport dirty and difficult to navigate around. Took 1hour 30minutes to get to check in, then they had given our 6 month paid and booked for seats away. Alot of waiting in lines with staff snapping orders for papers, papers and tickets...please. Not at all helpful. We finally arrived at the gate to discover that 2 of our seats no-longer existed. They offered a train instead. A mild dummy-spit later and we landed in Basel. Poor Jacqs was to sit on my lap, fortunately the aircrew re-deemed their ground based fellows and she got the seat we paid for. Very different experience. Lufthansa and Frankfurt Airport was not a good experience on the ground. I dread a return flight to Munich on the way to New York. Locals here were surprised, perhaps we got them on a bad day?
Basel and the Swiss are fantastic. Very old along side the new. Most people speak English. We took a tram into the city and did a lap. A local fellow saw us and took pity. He phoned around for directions and we arrived at our Hotel. Money is interesting. Loaded with Euros we discovered the Swiss prefer Francs.
The food is very good and the sweets and breads...hmm heaven. The clothing in the stores is very nice. Of course we sampled, and wish we could take some with us to the US leg.
All sorts walk the streets. I heard 4 different languages on the tram, and people range from very fair to very dark in equal amounts. Christmas is big. Decorated trees everywhere, we look forward to visiting the old markets, really decorated for Christmas.
Must go. Girls gone to bed ready for Zoo and Christamas lights on Thursday.
