Late rising this morning after getting to bed at 1am last night. We took a Mercedes E Class 2018 uber home last night driven by fellow who looked and sounded like a younger version of Gru, a character from Despicable Me. He drove well but like the character Gru took liberties by letting us wait 25 minutes after being only 2 minutes away on the uber map. We suspect he got another commission and decided to sneak that job in before picking us up.

Today we are posting home some gifts and finalising our sightseeing. We explored some more around our apartment and find a chocolatier shop called A L A Mere De Famille - Chocolatier - Glacier- Corfiseur. The chocolatier business was founded in 1761 and is a family business. The chocolats were delicious but woman who served us could have frozen water with her facial expressions. The chocolate was very expensive but were certainly of a high quality. We bought 4 of cheaper chocolates to try for 4Euro ( roughly $7aust).We have found the French to be friendly people especially once they understand you are Australian. We have regularly noticed a rapid change of attitude once realise you not English or American. They often display great hospitality towards wanted guests and visitors. We have enjoyed our visit.
It hasn’t been as horrible as presented on travel blogs and YouTube, perhaps because we have tried to use French when we could. Also it wasn’t a city that is seen through rose coloured glasses by the the romantics either. But is was a beautiful (mostly) city with a mixed past and well worth a visit. Staying close to the river either side of the Lourve in the centre and/or easy access to Hop on Hop offs boats and buses would make the stay pleasant although we also dappled in the metro which is actually easy to navigate but ask a services booth for the ticket you require much easier than using machines. Waking is flat but distances between tourist attracts can be lengthy.
Their driving is interesting as are their road rules. Essentially if you are on the road you take your chances. They certainly love their car horns and are relatively quick to use them. We noticed that the French will do what please when it pleases them. They don’t yield even on footpaths, so don’t play chicken with a Frenchman or group on the footpath
We have probably ticked our Paris box but we would certainly return as a stop over spot for a couple days on the way to somewhere else.
After lunch we took our gifts to the post office which was an experience. Attempting to read and fill out a French customs form is stressful especially since a obviously wrong answer could have expensive implications for our gifts that we are sending home. We eventually completed the firm and hopefully sent them home. A language mix match happened where our parcel was sent without us paying. We got 5 minutes along and realised we hadn’t paid and returned to the post office to pay. At post office our parcel had been sent and we explained the situation, they were surprised and thankful for our honesty. We learnt that if we hadn’t got back to the post office to pay, our parcel would have been sent anyway. At the end of the day our conscience was good despite being 56 Euros poorer.
In afternoon we headed to Wax Museum - Gervin. Gervin Museum was founded in 1882 by Arthur Meyer, a journalist for
Le Gaulois, on the model of Madame Tussauds founded in London in 1835 [1] and named for its first artistic director, caricaturist Alfred Grévin. It is one of the oldest wax museums in Europe.Gervin Museum didn’t disappoint. The wax copies of famous and infamous people were extremely lifelike and you are treated to light display in a room of mirrors.
The Museum covered famous people in history.
There was opportunity to fool around as well.
Meet the great people of modern history.
Characters from Books and Movies.
As well celebrities from music, movies and world leaders.
Cos met a few famous folks as well. Well worth the visit. It took us 11/2 hours to see it all quickly.
We found a pleasant restaurant and (Melissa) dined on snails and French onion soup. After dinner we went for one final stroll of Paris’ streets.
