We took a tour bus along a road that was under construction for about 40 minutes. The road was narrow and rough. For the last two years the road is being widened and expected to continue for at least another 5 years. Poor beggars.
The bus took us at one stage along the beautiful coastline into the ancient town of Budea. This town was mix of ugly modern buildings and then walked ancient old town.
A (gang) pack of three dogs escorted us from the new town into old and out again. Very friendly. As expected semi feral cats roam about avoiding the dogs while looking for food. Several cats allowed us to be close and take their photo. We explored the old town as part of the tour then with free time allowed to explore for an hour. The old town foundations are pre Roman era with Venetian walls and later an Austrian fortress added. The old town streets are narrow with well worn cobblestones. We sampled sweets , coffee and a local sandwich of pizza of ham and cheese folded. The coffee is similar to Italian coffee we tried. There is five churches inside the walls with 2 operational. The streets are maze like and are very old which lends to the charm.
Montenegro is interesting place. Houses have multiple floors, so an extended family lives on separate floors. Very traditional with male children highly valued. Girls rarely inherit property.
The bus took us back to Kotor old town for another tour. Similar but bigger with awesome mountains and harbour. Ancient landmarks and landscape.
Lots of fun waiting an hour for tender
