Hawaii day4 - Pride of America

Today we board our cruise ship, Pride of America to begin our trip around the Hawaiian Islands. Excited obviously, but after 3 days of being stationary we now need to pack up. (No photos because it is a task left to your imagination).

Outside is a little overcast today with some rain. Lots of people roaming around with bags, so I suspect they are heading to the boat as well.

On another note, on every block there is a ABC store. The locals have made up names for these mini Dept stores, but they are generally unpublishable.🙂

We checked out of our room at the historic Surfrider, and boarded a taxi to the cruise port. The taxi driver was familiar with Australia, as his wife’s family live in Melbourne. A friendly fellow.

Arrival at the cruise port and check in took about 30 minutes. Very well organised and friendly. Check in opened at 12 but certainly not first arrivals at about 12.10 Alhoa!

The ship interior is very lush in decor.

We then found lunch, which was excellent and extensive. Seating was plentiful and comfortable. After lunch, we began to explore the ship.

At just before 3pm local time we got entry into our balcony cabin. Like the previous ships we have been on, our cabin is fairly compact but nicely fitted out. The ship decor is old world in theme. Our balcony is great and I can see us living on it. The neighbors are American and perhaps a bit noisy (probably because they are a bit excited, but time will tell.) They are friendly which is good.

Melissa received a display of roses, along with strawberries dipped in rich chocolate. A bottle of champagne also arrived.🙂

Melissa, Jacqueline and I received gift vouchers for the trip in form of ship credit.

Poor Jacqueline’s bed doubles as our sofa. Putting it up or down will be chore each day.

The ship has old world library and Internet cafe as well.

From our balcony, we can watch the tugs at work in the Harbour.

We are currently booking our Sunday shore excursions. Either submarine or whale watching and sunset cruise.

At 6:55pm Saturday 2nd December we departed dock into Pearl Harbour and out to sea.

Our internet access at sea is very hit and miss, so blog updates will need happen on shore excursions.

We dined in Skyline restaurant. The meals were large and divine in nature. The staff were a interesting team. The head waitress was short sharp and to the point with conversation, while her young assistant was new (1 week aboard) and keen to chat and help. The restaurant was stylish Art Deco of the 1930s and spacious. Curious though, any form of water was not free. Fortunately we had the soda package as part of our cruise, so we drank soft drinks instead. I don’t think the head waitress liked us much 😬.

Generally ambience of the ship is generally. much better than P&O Dawn. Must of the staff we have met have been very friendly and helpful. Our room is tastefully decorated but will be very quaint for 3😬
