Hawaii Day 2

A big sleep in today with our room phone ringing breaking our slumber. We awoke 8:45am local time (or 4:45am Toowoomba) after 15hours sleep for Melissa who went to bed unwell, and 12 hours for Cos. Jacqueline has been sleeping off and on since 7pm the previous day. Jacqueline did awake and visit the Hotel Gym, returning to the room at midnight which woke us. Apologies aside, we got back to sleep. As if any international travel, adjusting to time zones is always a challenge. Our challenge is getting all of us in sync which will take some doing. We left the room late as a result, which means wasted opportunities to experience Hawaii and Holulu.

The day outside is perfect.

Sitting in Hotel foyer watching the world go by is interesting. Probably 2/3 of people moving through are of Asian descent, and are generally Japanese by origin. The breeze coming through the foyer is delightful with a soft hint of the Pacific Ocean. The people are friendly and polite, a lovely place to visit.

After a late breakfast, we did a quick walk around the area. For retail area, it is nicely developed. Jacqueline was keen on KFC, which was similar to KFC in Australia. Hmm .

We returned to Hotel beach bar and kicked back and watched the world go by on the beach. A very pleasant beach I must admit. Lunch at beach bar was fantastic with ice coffee and pizza.

The hotel interior is old world colonial in style.

In late afternoon through to dinner we continued our exploration of down town Honolulu.

The “malls” are often built around Hotels and trees. One mall, the “International Market” was built around 170 year old tree.

All the malls are designed for comfort, with rocking chairs in strategic locations of the best views of gardens, beaches or trees.

Food outlets of various food types are everywhere. Today we ate Mexican tacos. The serves are generally large but the price once you factor taxes and exchange are slightly more expensive than Australia.

The streets are decorated with gardens and parks outside the malls. The city is very clean and there is very little litter about.

Almost every street or mall has some sort of display celebrating nature or Hawaiian history.

The people are very friendly and we found tourists and locals keen to interact and know about you.

Tonight Jacqueline convinced Cos to the Hotel gym. An interesting experience for all as he walked and ran briskly for 15 minutes only stopping to have a heart attack...,actually post this blog entry.

On return, we enjoyed a night cap ready for an early start tomorrow.
