Day 2 (Monday 3rd November) travel to Doha and Venice

We boarded our Qatar Flight to Doha on time. No issues, all went smoothly. Seating is good for a 777, we have some leg room and plenty of storage. Certainly a mix of people onboard. Melissa researched the best seats for aircraft, she was spot on. Close to the toilets within too much through traffic of people moving forward.

Entertainment was okay. Not too many new releases on offer. There was enough movies etc to pass the time of 14 hours.

Landed in Doha 5ish in the morning local time. Saw the sun rise on another day.

Passing through security as pleasant as security can be.

The airport is clean and well maintained. Cleaners in each toilet to clean a stall etc after they are used by each person. Prices are high, but to be expected. Staff friendly, locals and folks from Africa. The airport manages to be artistic but also very functional. Plenty of signs to guide the travellers.  So far so good.

The airport is known for artistic statues. We found our first one of animals riding a bike. The rainforest in the middle of concourse is very pleasant.

Off to Venice through gate C22. The airport is huge, we were lucky, it was a short walk to the gate for us. We hope the return is just pleasant because last time through Dubai airport was very unpleasant.

The flight was on airbus A320, and it was comfortable but certainly was aging. No bad aging, just aged. Both our entertainment systems were faulty and had to use backup plug for supplied headsets.

The flight went smoothly with the aircraft arriving early. Both flights had skilled pilots who landed their aircraft gently. After landing we experienced the European Union’s new electronic entry system which went quickly without too much fuss. The fun and games began when we tried moving through the eGate and were rejected to manual gate with a long line of perhaps 200 people. We were thankfully rescued because we were Australians back to eGates and this time we were passed through. Hurrah.

We bought two tickets for the Orange line to be dropped off on the Grand Canal close to our hotel.

After checking into the hotel (an old palace up to a generation ago), we enjoyed a shower and a freshen up and change of clothes.

We went on an adventure navigating Venice’s old streets admiring the dark  ages to renaissance era streets. It never gets old fi us and particularly Cos who seems to have personal connections to the city.
