Day 4 Wanaka to Queenstown

The Early start this morning to get fuel and take photos. Fuel is very pricey at $2.08, so we have nothing to complain about back in Toowoomba. Wanaka photos highlight sheer beauty of the place.

This morning we get a flight to Milford Sounds and back to Queenstown. Really looking forward to flying over NZ Alps, and seeing the landscape from the air. The weather here is crisp but not too cold.

We arrived at Classic Flights for our trip to Milford Sound. Sweet Jacqueline had agreed a while ago not to fly and instead travel with Alan and Rachel. Sadly our Cessna 172 has only four seAts, and we need one for our pilot Nriven.

The flight to the sounds was magnificent. Huge snow covered mountains, river valleys, lakes and dense 35metre trees as far as the eye could been seen. The flight took about hour as we cruised through the NZ alps to the west coast and down to the mouth of the sound. The landing strip was small, but so was our plane. Our tour included a cruise, so we boarded a boat to see the sound.

The boat trip lasted 2 hours, and we were amazed at the scale of the place. 150 metre waterfalls, and 2500metre sheer cliffs plunged to the bottomless sound. We were greeted by friendly seals and bird life. A great trip.

The flight back to Queenstown was equally amazing. Our pilot was very talented, we certainly recommend "Classic Fights".

Our dear friend Rachel drove our car and Jacqs to Queenstown to collect us. Thank you Rachel.

In Queenstown we enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Alpine tourist trap. We spilt up so the girls could get facials, while the others could ride the Skyline service to Queenstown's peak. Louge riding was popular with Jacqs having spectacular "walk away" crash. We finished our day with NZ famous FERG burgers.

We have noticed that NZ is not as cheap as last visit. Exchange rate and tourism has taken its toll, needless to say we have been spending more than expected.
